Slab Backsplashes

Your One-Stop-Shop for Countertops and Slab Backsplashes in CT & NY

If you’re considering adding new countertops to your kitchen in Westchester County, New York or Fairfield County, Connecticut, one design element you’ll need to factor in is the backsplash. The solid slab backsplash is quickly becoming a favorite among homeowners and business owners alike as it adds a custom aesthetic that brings the feel of luxury to any room. While a solid slab backsplash is on-trend, it is also a timeless aesthetic look that you’ll enjoy for years to come.

In most kitchens, the focal point is a stunning countertop surface in natural stone like marble or quartzite — or even an attractive look-alike, such as engineered quartz. If your kitchen is in need of a focal point that whispers rather than screams, this option may do the trick.

Enhance your stone countertops with a stone slab backsplash, a seamless option that runs from your countertops to the backsplash area. With this option, you can create an even more eye-catching statement in your new kitchen.

Excellent selection and service. Wanted to view a slab of Quartz which was stacked behind 20 other slabs, Academy unearthed the slab we were interested in, and it ended up being perfect. Their entire staff is knowledgeable and professional; templating and installation was neat, clean and quick.

This was a positive experience from beginning to end. Sinan was very helpful in getting samples for me and Kristen and the measuring and installation team was professional and courteous. The process was SO QUICK!! Very happy with the result and would definitely recommend Academy

Academy Marble wa incredible to work with. Everything was timely, efficient and the product is beautiful. The team was kind and considerate of us first-time kitchen renovation homeowners. I would highly recommend from the service to the install.

I just completed a complex Neolith shower install with Academy Marble and Stone that was difficult every step of the way, for reasons out of our control. Being in the construction industry, I have worked with a lot of stone fabricators over the years. The team at Academy is the best I have ever worked with... and it's not even close. Every person is knowledgeable, accommodating, responsive, and trustworthy. If I could work with Academy every day, I would. I've never had more confidence in a subcontractor.

I had an excellent experience with Academy Marble. Their prices are very reasonable and their inventory is great. We took a tour of the marble slabs in their Rye showroom and worked closely with Betsy, who was very helpful, to ensure we were getting what we wanted. They're detail-oriented, responsive and overall easy to work with. I would highly recommend working with Academy Marble.

What Are Slab Backsplashes?

This standard backsplash might be a tile border that extends a mere four inches up the wall from the counter surface. However, it could be up to about 20 inches tall, depending on the designer’s and homeowner’s preferences.

The alternative is a full-height backsplash that covers the entire area between the counter and the upper cabinets. It could even extend to the ceiling in some areas, such as behind the stove or sink. This backsplash is meant to cover all the wall space rather than just a small portion. A slab backsplash typically comes from an unbroken slab of stone (although there may be seams, depending on how much surface it is covering).

Often, the slab backsplash uses the same stone as the kitchen countertop surface. This amplifies visual interest and enhances the statement made by the stone, whether you like the luminous glow and bold veining of marble.

Without the intrusion of grout lines between tiles, you’ll enjoy a continuous surface and a powerful visual effect. This effect is especially striking if you choose bookmatch slabs that allow the pattern to flow seamlessly from the counter to the backsplash.

Considerations for Slab Backsplashes

Because of the visual impact of matching your backsplash to your countertop, you’ll have to carefully consider the type and variety of stone you choose. The bolder the pattern, the more it will dominate your space, so be realistic about your tolerance for color, pattern, and variation.

You’ll also have to decide whether you want bookmatch slabs. Bookmatch is only really necessary if you have a bold pattern. For example, you would likely want to bookmatch Calacatta marble.
