Lilac Marble
While some of the most popular marbles bring a refined element to the home, Lilac Marble offers pure drama paired with a signature style. Quarried in Turkey, this visually striking natural stone is perfect for those residential and commercial spaces where originality and luxury are desired. The intense visual appearance of the dark veining creates a focal point in any room.
Classified as a white calcite marble, Lilac marble has a white base with a slight greyish tone. Its spectacular veining ranges from deep black to violet to lilac. The aesthetic creates a dynamic visual with the hues furrowed in the expressive veining, thus creating a spider-web appearance that creates visual interest.
Marble is a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized minerals, including dolomite and calcite. As such, marble measures a 3 on the Mohs hardness scale, meaning that it’s more durable than limestone and not quite as hard as granite. Mohs is a rating system for mineral hardness and ranges from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the hardest. To put this in perspective: diamonds, one the hardest natural occurring stones, is a 10 on the Mohs scale.
For centuries marble has been used in architecture, interior design, sculpture, and landscape ornamentation. Today, it still reigns as one of the top choices for upscale homes and popularly used on kitchen countertops and islands, shower surrounds, walls, and flooring.
With its spectrum of black shades and violet hues, Lilac marble’s aesthetic lends itself to several styles, including contemporary, transitional, and even neoclassical interiors. Even with its dramatic look, Lilac marble offers a classic and timeless choice for both interiors and exteriors.
Expansive slabs of the marble make a breathtaking focal point when surrounding a fireplace or encompassing a massive kitchen island, where it pairs beautifully with lacquered navy or grey cabinetry.
These colors can be carried on to the bathroom countertops and applied to the shower surround, walls, and floors. Due to the expansive veining of the marble, it will dominate a small space, so it is visually suited to larger spaces.
Those who want just a touch of drama can apply Lilac marble in smaller areas such as the kitchen island countertop, the backsplash or an accent wall in the shower.
We look forward to assisting you with your selection and application of Lilac Marble for your interior or exterior spaces. We suggest requesting a consultation to meet at our showroom & warehouse in Bethel, CT, or Rye, NY.
